Hey, I'm a man. I get it. You're probably just like me and want to enjoy life the way it was. You want to live relatively care free, eat what you want, go out for drinks with the guys and don't want to visit the doctor for some minor problem. I hate admitting when something is wrong with me but let me tell you... Gluten intolerance is a big problem. It can create some major problems in your life. Even worse than what you're going through now. That's why you're here right?
Gluten intolerance is an autoimmune disease, where anyone with it can experience discomfort when they consume gluten. These patients are intolerant towards gluten and have great difficulties digesting food containing it. Gluten is commonly found in food products that contain barley, wheat or rye but there are many hidden sources of gluten. The thing is... You should get diagnosed if you think it's a problem in your life.
This condition arises because; the body produces certain auto antibodies that damage the villus lining of the small intestine. If gluten intolerance or Celiac Disease remains untreated, within time, villous atrophy occurs. This condition slowly and gradually sloughs off the villi from the and small intestine. As a result, the body becomes deficient of important nutrients due to malabsorption. This condition poses adverse effects on the proper function of the brain, peripheral nervous system, bones, liver and other organs.

Gluten intolerance and Celiac Disease also causes the body to loose its capacity to fight several diseases. One might be forced to think that the body’s immune system would have no business with this condition, but it has to be understood that most of the body’s immune system is located near the small intestine. Due to this reason, most of the antibodies that normally drive away the infection get destroyed. As a result, the mucus membrane that forms a protective covering for the body's organs is destroyed. Hence, many parts of the body are exposed to pathogens and the body falls prey to frequent infections and sometimes fatal diseases. This is the cause of frequent infections of the eyes, mouth, sinuses, etc.
In addition to this, the digestive and the respiratory tract are also affected due this condition. This leads to, rupturing of the intestinal tissues, causing ulcers, pain in abdomen and upset stomach. Other symptoms of gluten intolerance include infertility in men, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, anemia, lactose intolerance, headaches, mood swings and pain in joints and bones.
Due to the damaged digestive tract, some of the symptoms of gluten intolerance in men are simply related to gastric problems. These include, intermittent diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, constipation and foul smelling stools that are grayish in color and appear fatty or oily. Many men also complain of muscle cramps, anemia, mouth sores, skin rashes, dental disorders and tingling sensation in the legs and feet (peripheral neuropathy). There are complaints of depression, mood swings and lack of concentration at work place. Weight loss is also common gluten intolerance. The weight loss is purely due to indigestion, diarrhea and the incapability of the body to absorb nutrition from the food.
Celiac Disease also brings with it, a condition known as dermatitis herpetiformis. This is an extremely itchy skin disease, wherein rashes develop all over the body mainly in areas near the elbow and joint region.
Other common symptoms of gluten intolerance in men may include abdominal distention, bloating, loss of bone density that may lead to frequent fractures, borborygmi (stomach rumbling), diabetes, headaches, migraines, grayish stools, hypoglycemia, hair loss, gluten ataxia, vomiting and sjogren’s disease (chronic autoimmune disorder affecting the functioning of many vital organs of the body). In this condition, patients may also experience steatorrhea which means high amounts of lipids in the stool that causes the stool to float.
Many times, these symptoms may give a warning for the onset of various disorders, and people are forced to adopt a different line of treatment. Gluten intolerance is only diagnosed when one or a number of tests are performed on the patient. The sooner one recognizes the symptoms; the earlier one can begin to remove gluten from their diet. If gluten intolerance is diagnosed at a later stage, then it will cause more devastating and irreparable damage to the human body.
